Leica V-Lux 3 announced

Leica’s new x24 Super-Zoom, the V-Lux 3 has been announced.

As always, there’s a similar camera but for a sane price – the Panasonic FZ150.

Panasonic always brag about the Leica lenses in their cameras. That’s fine, even if those lenses are just branded Leica. But when it comes to the fact that both companies create the same cameras – the ‘play’ in the market isn’t as clear.

The new Leica V-Lux 3 Super-Zoom has just been announced. It has a wide 24mm lens, a long x24 zoom range, Full HD 1080p video, a maximum burst rate of 12 fps at full resolution and a 3″ articulated LCD screen with a 460k resolution.

That’s a fine looking camera, you might say. And you’d be right.
But for $949, I sure won’t be rushing to buy it – but rather be looking at its twin sister – Panasonic’s Lumix FZ150 -

True, it’s not a Leica. But it shares every technical parameter with the V-Lux 3.
So, at $429, which is less than half of the price of the Leica, it suddenly looks very interesting.

It could all be a devious marketing plan, I know. I take that possibility into account.
I still find the V-Lux 3 a branding extravaganza and the FZ150 an excellent buy.
